ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid: Dual Processor Windows Laptop Turns Into A Detachable Android Tablet

Lenovo is coming to CES 2024 with an amazing innovation in the laptop category: a dual-processor dual-OS system that allows users to detach the display of the Windows laptop to use it as a full-blown Android tablet.

The ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid incorporates a laptop base system running on Microsoft Windows 11 and powered by an Intel Ultra Core processor, coupled with a detachable tablet that operates on the Android system running on a Qualcomm Soc.

At the heart of this innovation lies two key components—the Hybrid Station and the . The Hybrid Station serves as the laptop base system, running on Microsoft Windows 11 and powered by an Intel Ultra Core processor. The Hybrid Tab is a detachable tablet operating on the Android system and powered by a Qualcomm Soc. These components can operate independently or collaboratively, allowing users to seamlessly transition between the Windows and Android environments.

The ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid is designed to handle a myriad of tasks in various modes, offering users a versatile computing experience:

When used in Windows 11 Laptop Mode, with the attached Tab,  you get a regular laptop experience with a 14-inch, 2.8K OLED display. Detach for PC use with the Hybrid Station connected to an external display. 

For Windows 11 Laptop with Hybrid Stream, the ThinkBook Plus delivers streaming of Android apps in a Picture-in-Picture window. 

In Tablet with Keyboard mode, employ the Hybrid Station as a keyboard and ClickPad for light Android work or play, benefiting from extended battery life. Detach the Tab for a full Android tablet experience, perfect for note-taking, presentations, or multimedia, making the Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid a versatile, all-in-one solution.

Under the hood, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid boasts powerful hardware specifications, including an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor and Intel Arc graphics in the Hybrid Station. With 32 GB LPDDR5x RAM, a 1 TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD, and a 75 Whr battery. When detached, the display transforms into a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1-powered tablet with 12 GB LPDDR5x RAM, 256 GB of storage, and a 38 Whr capacity battery.

In terms of connectivity, the device supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 for the Hybrid Station and Bluetooth 5.3 for the Hybrid Tab. The whole system weighs 1755 grams (3.87 lbs)

Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 will be available starting Q2 2024, with an expected starting price of $1999.
