Are you ready to go back to Pandora? The third film in James Cameron’s epic sci-fi franchise has revealed its full title at last. It’s Avatar: Fire and Ash . It hits theaters almost exactly three years after 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water, opening December 19, 2025.
Sorry to anyone who was holding out hope that a certain previously dismissed title (The Seed Bearer) would end up making the cut. But Fire and Ash makes more sense for the third Avatar film, given what we know about it so far.
Just announced at #D23, our title for the next Avatar film:

In 2023, Cameron said that after part two’s aquatic adventures, a different element would be getting a focal point in part three: “Fire has a symbolic purpose in the film and there’s a culture that is specifically around that concept … You’re going to meet two completely new [Na’vi] cultures in the next film. We met the Omaticaya, we met the Metkayina, and you’re going to meet two new cultures in the next film, and it kind of roves a little more freely around the world of Pandora to different places.”
Another detail we learned back in 2023 is that Game of Thrones alum Oona Chaplin will be playing a character named “Varang,” the leader of a Na’vi fire clan known as the “Ash People,” who dwell in Pandora’s volcanic region.
After Avatar 3, there are at least two more installments coming in 2029 and 2031, and maybe even beyond.
